About The Brew
Peach is one of the hardest fruits to put in a beer. The aromatic compounds that make a peach smell like a peach are delicate and volatile — a lot of them simply don’t survive fermentation, and the ones that do sit in a narrow window. Under-do it and the fruit disappears into the malt. Over-do it and you’ve got candy. Getting peach to read as actual ripe fruit rather than an air freshener takes more restraint than the finished beer lets on.
Wheat is the right canvas for the attempt. The soft, pillowy body and low bitterness that define an American wheat beer give fruit somewhere to sit without anything competing — no roast, no hop bite, no aggressive yeast character elbowing in. It’s why the pairing has stuck around from Belgian fruit lambics through every summer shandy on the shelf.
At 4% and 18 IBUs, Blow Up Your TV keeps everything dialed back on purpose. Light, soft, faintly hazy, with ripe stone fruit up front and a clean finish that doesn’t linger sweet. A porch beer in the most literal sense.
The name is John Prine’s, from “Spanish Pipedream” — a song about unplugging from all of it, moving out to the country, and eating a lot of peaches.
